Arranging a visit to a particle accelerator or a talk from a particle physics can really help to bring your teaching to life!

Visits (UK)

  • The STFC's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in Harwell, Oxfordshire, is home to ISIS, one of the world's leading pulsed neutron and muon source. It is also home to the particle physics research group. Additionally RAL houses the Central Laser Facility, the Diamond Synchrotron Light Source and the Space Test Facilities. For further information about the facilities click here. To find out more about the schools' programme contact the RAL schools' officer
  • The STFC's Daresbury Laboratory (DL) near Warrington in Cheshire is currently home to the Synchrotron Radiation Source. To find out more about their schools' programme contact the DL schools' officer

Visits (Overseas)

  • CERN (the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva, Switzerland).  A visit to CERN is simply a unique experience.  It is surprisingly easy to arrange.  See guidance on arranging a visit from the CERN Visits Service and see the Guide to Visiting CERN from the UK.  The STFC Schools Officer can also offer advice and guidance.
  • DESY (Hamburg, Germany).  Home of the German Electron Synchrotron.  Contact DESY for more information.
