Microstrip detector for the ALICE experiment - Copyright CERNCERN Technology Transfer

Technology Transfer at CERN basically aims at enhancing the policy of providing its achievements to industry and society at large, especially for the benefit of the Member States. Exchange relations should be encouraged by providing appropriate incentives, advice and information on protection and transfer of technology.

Visit the CERN Technology Transfer web site for more information.

PIPSS

PIPSS supports the development of effective, long term collaborations between UK Universities, CERN, UK industry and research sector organisations, with the aims of:

  • Ensuring the maximum benefit to UK industry
  • Encouraging a two-way transfer of skills and knowledge between STFC supported scientists and researchers in UK industry
  • Supporting a healthy, internationally competitive, UK industrial base supplying goods and services to astronomy, space science and particle physics.

Visit the STFC Industrial Support Scheme web pages for more information.

Technology at CERN Surveys

A wide variety of technologies are developed for existing and future particle physics experiments.  In a recent exercise, evaluations of a number of technologies suitable for transfer from CERN were identified.  Visit the overview surveys on the STFC web site for more information.

The future technology requirements for a number of particle physics experiments are included in the technology strategy pages on the STFC web site.

ASTeC - The UK's Centre of Expertise for Accelerator Science and Technology.

Charged particle accelerators are at the centre of a great many scientific instruments, including a range of large scale facilities. These include advanced systems for particle and nuclear physics, neutron, synchrotron light sources and free electron lasers.

Staff at ASTeC have expertise in all types of accelerator and participate both in design studies and construction projects. There is also a programme of world class underpinning Research & Development studies.
